To Dwell in Primitives Times...

One thing I love for sure is primitive lighting. I myself am guilty of "too much of a good thing" I have primitive colonial lamps all over my house. I bet Com Ed loves me as the eclectic meter is whirling around day and night.
I can't help it though, I love the look of colonial times and well lets face it, they used the bare essentials.
Today we do not always stop to appreciate the simple necessities of life until we have to go without them. Clean clothes, warm food, light.

Not all my lamps are electric some of them have grubby candles in them that smell sweet even when they aren't burning.
Old Antique spools are one of my favorites, with a look from olden days and the soft glow of a silicone bulb it gives the home a warm and cozy appearance.

One thing I hear the most from visitors is, "your house always smells like something is baking". It does, I have to admit I always have tarts burning in the warmer or candle jars lit. I love the smell of anything homemade. This is the illusion that I have been baking all day.

I wanted to share some of my favorite lighting with you, all of these are available in craft malls, Primitive stores and most antique shops. More and more you can find primitive artists and handcrafters making their own forms of early lighting. Nothing beats the smell of a grubby candle surrounded by a dish of sweet smelling fixins on a table in your entryway.

I hope everyone has a happy and relaxing weekend!

  1. I LOVE my grubby candle I got from you..They smell and look so nice in the old dish I have them in.. I set in the middle on my oak table. When I first put them in the dish I was so careful to arrange them.. I set them this way...then that way..then this way.. I wasn't satisfied at all.. SO I picked them all up and gently tossed them in the dish..and WHOO LAA! Perfect! I love them... And the Cat jar lamp!! it's my night light in the bathroom. I have it on all the time.. I now set a zinc wide mouth jar lid UPSIDE down on the top. I put some melting tarts in it.. The warm from the lights warm the tarts but they don't melt,,they just get soft and give off their scent.Thank-you Hugs Rene

  2. Oh you can never have too much of a good thing! Enjoy your candles every day. I have lost my sense of smell (most of it) and it is so depressing. I can not smell a candle anymore. I can smell incense though. Thank goodness for that anyway.
